Reporting Relationships

Reports to: General supervision is received from the Dean of Workforce Development 

Supervision Exercised: None.

Job Summary
Provide a variety of teaching/learning activities that prepare students for the class A-commercial driver's license (CDL) examination and an entry-level position in the trucking industry.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Related duties may be assigned.
 
  • Teach the classroom portion of the Truck Driver Training Program, including permits, logbooks, and trip planning.
  • Teach hands-on portion of the Truck Driver Training Program, including backing, shifting, and behind-the-wheel training.
  • Maintain student files in compliance with ICCB and IL Secretary of State standards.
  • Maintain Truck Driver Training Program equipment.
  • Monitor inventory of training supplies.
  • Evaluate and grade students throughout the program.
  • Provide maintenance on equipment in emergency situations.
  • Able to work on-call bases if the enrollment requires.
  • Regular attendance is expected.
  • Using tact and courtesy, the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with persons contacted in the course of work.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. Possess a class CDL-A driver's license and a current Department of Transportation medical certificate. Over-the-road experience, clean driving record, and "a minimum of 5 years". Some training experience is a plus.
